4 Tips for Better Vocal Health
We all know that eating healthy and exercising make for a healthier mind and body. It’s the same thing when it comes to our voices. Athletes take care of their bodies, and singers should take care of their voices. Below you find 5 tips that will lead you to better vocal health.
1.) Quit smoking – Duh! This should be a no brainer. If you want to keep your voice in the best shape possible, then quit smoking and limit your amount of secondhand smoke inhalation. Not doing so, irritates vocal cords and can lead to throat cancer.
2.) Drink plenty of water – Keeping your body hydrated is very important, including your vocal cords. Keeping your vocal cords hydrated and moist helps your vocal cords flex better. Try to avoid coffee, soda, and alcohol before performing as these can irritate your vocal cords.
3.) Don’t strain your voice – Try not to scream, talk loudly, or make funny voices. Making weird sounds, yelling, and extensive talking can lead to a tired, dry, hoarse voice. These are all signs of irritated vocal cords, which can lead to losing ones voice completely.
4.) Give your voice a break – Always give your vocal cords some rest. If you use your voice for an extended period of time or are sick, you need to rest your vocal cords. Extensive talking, singing, and illness can damage your vocal cords, therefore they need a break just as the rest of our body does.
